How we work

poq architects Process mirrors the RIBA Plan of Work which comprises eight stages.

Whilst designed to act together to inform the briefing, design, construction, handover and use of a building, the below mentioned Stages can also be undertaken individually.

Stage 0 (Strategic Definition)

We determine the best means of achieving our client’s requirements.

Stage 1 (Preparation and Briefing)

poq architects develop the detail of the brief and make sure that everything needed for the design process is in place before progressing to Stage 2.

Stage 2 (Concept Design)

We design the concept and make certain that the look and feel of the building is in line with your vison, brief and budget.

Stage 3 (Spatial Coordination)

poq architects spatially coordinate your design before the focus turns to preparing the detailed information required for manufacturing and constructing the building. The information at the end of this stage needs to be coordinated sufficiently to avoid all but the most minor changes at Stage 4 and to make sure that the planning application is based on the best possible information.

Stage 4 (Technical Design)

We develop the information required to manufacture and construct your building. This requires information from the design team and specialist subcontractors employed by the contractor, regardless of which procurement route is used.

Stage 5 (Manufacturing and Construction)

Progression to site where the building is manufactured and constructed, poq architects begin their weekly site inspections and respond to site queries from the Contractor.

Stage 6 (Handover)

Your building will be in use and the emphasis of the project team will have switched to closing out any defects and completing the tasks required to conclude the Building Contract.

Stage 7 (Use)

This is the period when your building is in use and lasts until it reaches the end of its life.
